I provide a private learning environment that is fun and relaxing. You supply the enthusiasm to learn.
My teaching fully supports and encourages creative individuality and is backed up by years spent teaching in all kinds of learning environments. No experience is necessary. If you have experience, I can show you something new to learn.
Hand Building
Hand-building is a technique used to shape clay into a variety of forms by the use of your hands, tools and a variety of equipment. There will be three methods taught: pinching, coiling, and creating forms using slabs. Some of the forms that can be created while we are together are, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, planters, vases, and small sculptures.
You will gain a solid understanding of hand building techniques. You will also learn about the history and cultures that have used these techniques and modern day artists who hand-build with clay.
Class Time: 2 hours, once a week for 5 weeks
Fee: $500
Throwing on the Wheel
Throwing pots on a wheel involves shaping wet clay into various forms using a potter’s wheel. You will learn to center the clay on the spinning wheel and use your hands to mold it into shapes, such as bowls or mugs, while controlling the speed and pressure applied to the clay.
These pots will be dried slowly and then bisque fired in my kiln. Once this is done, you will learn to apply glazes to your creations for the final firing.
